Water damage repair questions
Hi,
My 2nd floor shower had a small leak that i fixed and it is directly over the 1st floor shower. There was water damage to the walls in a few spots and I have a few questions about how to properly repair the water damaged walls on the first floor.
I had to remove a portion of the ceiling to find the leak and i already started removing the paint that bubbled off, including some what i believe to be thin set that had crack.
1. Will standard dry wall with a quality primer and paint meant for wet areas be ok for replacing the ceiling?
2. What type of compound works best for patching the areas of the cement board that were painted?
3. What is the best method for joining the drywall to the cement board?

Hopefully i explained everything correctly. I am pretty new to home ownership and am learning that there is always more to know about taking care of your house.

There is no such thing as paint for wet area! If this is just a wall in the general bathroom, drywall, primer and paint is sufficient. Probably want something more than flat to help it shed water!

Are you sure that is cement board? it looks more like the base coat for plaster. How old is your house? Drywall would butt up to cement board [or plaster] and then the joint would be taped/finished.
Assuming you mean the wall over the tub/shower surround or ceiling, latex enamel is fine although a bath paint is better.

Sorry I should have been more specific, the cement board (or more likely plaster base coat) makes of the shower walls and the ceiling was new drywall from the previous owner. I was looking for the best way to finish the corner between them.
The house was built in the 1940's so it could probably be plaster base coat, i actually noticed at the top of the wall you can see a small bit of steel mesh sticking out.

Tape it like you would if it was all drywall. I like to use Durabond when repairing plaster as it dries hard like plaster does [and I'm not experience with actual plaster] although regular joint compound should do ok.
