Wall Cabinet Installation

I'm installing new kitchen wall cabinets and I would like the cabinet over the refrigerator to be 6" off the rear wall so the fridge has more of a built in look. How do I block out this cabinet so it's secure?

If it has cabinets on either side you would add a filler maybe 1/4" wide (matching cabinet color) onto the sides of the cabinet on both sides (pieces in front flush with the face frame and the pieces in back maybe 1 1/2 from the rear of the cabinet), and then fasten through the inside of those cabinets and hit the center of the face frame with your screws. For the rear fasteners I would use a pair of 10-24 tee nuts and 10-24 truss head machine bolts on the left and right. If you feel like you need to fasten it to the wall or you don't want a gap behind I would probably cut a board 6" deep and pocket screw it to the cabinet on top and bottom (to close off the gap) and then pocket screw it to the wall studs as needed.

 

Just a little clarification, the cabinet frame (where the door is mounted) is typ wider than the cabinet box.

Cabinets are installed frame to frame so if the box is moved outward then you have a small gap (36 frame width, 35 1/2" box width) and need the filler XS mentions.

But if installing new and you allow for the shorter width ( 35 1/2), or whatever you are installing then no fillers are needed.

Be aware, moving just the upper cabinet out itself out may look odd, when you have that "custom look" the cabinets are the same top and sides!

Typ that is done with a cabinet depth refrig or making a recess in the back wall so the refrig can sit further back, or moving all the cabinets out!

 

This cabinet and refrigerator will be installed in a corner about 6" off the right side wall with a filler taking up that space. There won't be any other wall cabinets on the left side of the refrigerator just a wall panel and regular floor cabinets.

Apparently Marq and Xsplr understand what's going on, but I don't. You don't want the cabinet attached flush against the back or rear wall? I'm sure I mus-understand and it's the side or right hand side that you want 6" gap and a filler used.
If the cabinet goes to the ceiling and you're having trouble supporting from the side, you can attach into the ceiling.

 

Build a 6 inch deep box attach that to the wall and then attack the cabinet to that.

You say that you will have a 6" filler on the right side, I imagine this matches your cabinets.
I would get another piece of this filler and use it on the left hand side of the mounting box otherwise it will not look very good.
Still will not look great from that side.
