Basement egress window options ( size inside)

I am wondering if casement windows are my best choice to meet egress code. I removed the trim and the dimensions from the boxed studs are 30W x 40 3/4H exact ( I realize I'll want to come in at least 1/2 H & W )
I am not a huge fan of the look of casement windows especially seeing all the other windows on the house are the standard hung windows. My friend said with double hung windows the whole area top and bottom can be counted as an opening but I have my doubts about that.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

In my area.... each building inspector has slightly different requirements and preferences.
Check with him for what he requires too.

Thanks, i'm gonna take a trip to home depot to see whats available. I think I will most likely have to go with a casement type window if I don't want to have to create a larger opening.
Xsleeper, yeah I'm gonna have to go with you on this one. I think my buddy was misinformed.

Here's an example of what most codes will be like.

DH's still require 5.7 sq ft clear. Thats a big DH.

Yeah, double hung is def a no go. The casements will work and It probably wont look bad actually because there are two windows so I could have one open to the the right and one open to the left.
