Most basic DIY Window

I have an old "awning" style window (swings from top inside) in my basement. I really need to put a 6" exhaust pipe thru it (for my Laser cutter) and for this I bought a piece of 1/4" thick acrylic (Plexiglas).
At first I wanted to break the glass and attach acrylic to the outside of frame, but now I'm thinking I'll probably build a quick "picture frame" type window. This way I'll at least have existing window if my build goes south
Any suggestion how to quickly build new window? I don't care about aesthetics or energy efficiency at this point. I'm at beginner level for woodworking (completed tons of 2x4 projects like workbench, shelves, etc.), don't have dado saw just portable table saw, router (fixed) band saw and miter saw, etc....
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Googling here and there I discovered "Glazing Points". Sweet little things!
So I fired my Sketchup program (I admit I much better at 3D modeling than I am at woodmaking) and came up with this..

Long Sides:

Short sides:

For material I'll be using 1x3 furring strips from Lowes.

I'm hoping I can make these on my cheapo-Ryobi router table... Short sides will be a little pain in the arse but I think I can do it.
What do you guys think? Is it plausible design? Is Spruce-Pine furring strips ok material?

Why would you not be running the line through the rim joist and leave the window as it is?

Thank you! That's an interesting idea! Unfortunately basement is fully finished and I don't want to break open ceiling...
