Door casing question

Hi,
I'm sort of new to this DIY thing. I painted one wall of my kitchen that doesn't have anything other than an electrical outlet on it. I'm going to be doing a board and batten on that wall. I'm planning on continuing the paint and board/batten around to the wall it touches. That wall has a sliding glass door in it. Also, the walls in my house are plaster. The sliding glass door of course has a casing around it. My question is, can I just remove the casing and not have anything around the door at all? Or is that a really bad idea? I am a little afraid it'll have this really noticeable gap between the door and the wall what with it being plaster and not drywall. Should I just leave the casing and paint to match the board/batten? Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

 

No you can't remove it as it covers a gap between the plaster and the jamb. Trim is painted one color, walls are another color. Dont paint your trim wall color unless they happen to be exactly the same. Generally trim paint will be a little glossier than the walls, as well.

 

Ok, I didn't think I could just wanted to double check. The top 2/3 of the wall is one color and the lower 1/3 is covered by the board/batten and will be a different color. I should keep the casing it's original stark white then? Thanks for your patience with this I'm sure basic questions.

 

Yes. Your b/b will have to butt up to the side of the casing and get scribed to fit. All trim is trim color. What's on the rest of the wall is painted separately.
