Installing window A/C questions

I am trying to install a window AC and the window (vinyl) has a vertical bar at the bottom. This will make the AC unstable .

I am wondering if I can cut and remove this bar to install the AC . I am anyway planning to replace the window next year.

This also brings another question --

For replacing the Window, I can see four screws (2 top and 2 bottom) holding the window to the frame. Is it as easy as removing these 4 screws to take out the window ?

I don't see a "vertical" bar. Are you talking about the top sash stop spacer?? It just clips in. It is there to keep the top sash from bottoming out when you lower it. Window air conditioners are basically held in place with their frame bearing on the window frame and an angular support outside. To answer your question, the screws are holding the window in, but it isn't that simple to remove the window. The interior and exterior trim will probably need removing in order to remove the window.

My mistake -- poor language skills

It is the raised bar at bottom . In the new pic I have shown it with two black lines

Lay a 5/8" thick board in the window to rest the A/C on.

Thanks much ! Is there any concern if cut that raised bar ?
The window is not too high and I might have to cut that bar to fit the AC

I would NOT cut that piece out as it has to do with the integrity of the window. I know you say you may replace it in the future, but in the meantime the window could flex without it. Use the plank as Ray suggested for a solid base for your AC.
