Is there a name/term for privacy doors that have the hole on the outside
Stupid question:
Is there a name/term for privacy doors that have the hole on the outside vs the key type? I'm looking to purchase tulip shape, brushed nickel privacy doorlocks, but that have the hole you can use a hairpin to unlock from the outside vs the one with a slit that you turn on the outside.

Yes, that is a privacy knob. If it takes a key, it's called a keyed entrance knob.
Or are you referring to how a privacy knob is actually unlocked from the outside? If so, that tends to vary by manufacturer.

You are correct, a pin is used to unlock the door from the outside.
I wouldn't call it a hairpin though, a stiffer pin works better to push the 'button'.
I prefer this type over the one you need to turn.

AFAIK, you just have to look. The last time I saw ones you just had to push, they were Schlage levers. This style is not as common as the one which has to be turned, from my observation.
