Remove casement window crank while window is closed?

Hi All,

I'm planning on doing some plastic insulation on my windows, and I realized that the casement crank will be jutting out and potentially cause problems.

First, for anyone who has used window insulator kits with these windows, does the crank complicate things? Second, if so, is it possible to remove the crank while the window is closed?

Thank you!
RJ

There is a small set screw that holds the crank in place. Loosen that and just pull it off. Otherwise, you can wrap it with a bit of foam or a rag and the plastic will conform to the bump.

Make sure the set screw is still threaded up good - you don't want to loose any screws and have to hunt for a replacement.

Do want to remove the crank or the entire operator? The operator can't be removed without opening the window.
