Damaged House Wrap Around Windows
Hey everyone,
Trying to figure out what the correct procedure is for repairing this issue. About to have the house painted but don't want to have them paint over any rotten wood. Started to pull off the exterior trim around a front window and found a lot of water damage. Trying to find out the correct way to fix the house wrap damaged in the photos.
Do I need to pull the nails from the window fins so I can slip some replacement paper under the fins? Or can I cut away the damaged wrap and put some stick on flashing over the fins?

Leave as much of the paper intact as you can. Remove whatever is too far gone to tape to... (looks like maybe they used Moiststop?) I would suggest you just go get a few rolls of Pella flashing tape. (Lowes usually carries it in their millwork dept with the windows)
Pull a nail or two if you have to... but I would say you should probably just tape everything up as best as you can with the Pella tape. Its nice stuff. Just be sure you have wiped the flanges off so they are clean first.

The paper is the only part that is damaged, somehow we got lucky there is no damage to the wood underneath.
