Adding a door frame and door. No existing frame.
Hi everyone,
New to the forums here. My grandmother has moved into a room without any doors. I'd like to add a door frame with a door to give her some privacy. I'm decent at hands on things, and I think that I can do it myself with some instruction. Can you guys give me some ideas about how to start?

How wide is the opening? Does the hallway continue down to the right? It's very likely that the opening is rough framed for a door and that simply removing the sheetrock and base trim will allow you to install a new pre-hung door. Of course then trim will need to be re--cut to fit, but you have an example just to the left, so that should be simple.
Probing with a hammer and finish nail or using a good stud finder should tell you if you have doubled up studs and a header over the opening. Actually, I'm not positive, but a header might not even be required on an interior door there. Probably not.

Sorry it took me a minute to get back. Been busy with school. Thanks for helping. The width is 3ft, the height is 7ft. Hallway continues both ways. All the other doors in the house are very close if not exact to this same size. I just don't even know where to begin.. Should I head down to lowes or a door store and find something with those measurements?

Here is chart with rough openings.
You have drywall on the sides which will need to come off. not sure about floors but if you had hardwood you would subtract thickness. If lucky a pre hung door will fit in and just need to be trimmed out.
