Installing exterior door with Type X drywall

What's the best way to install a door that will eventually have 5/8" type X drywall on one side and 1/2" on the other? I'm thinking offset the door 5/8" on the type x side and install thicker trim on the inside then butt the 1/2" drywall up against the trim. Any other ideas? If it isn't obvious what the issue is, the jamb is sized for 1/2" drywall on each side l, so using 5/8" on one side causes the jamb on the opposite side to be recessed 1/8" behind the drywall.

Interior side flush with the surface of the drywall so that the trim lays normally. On the outside, the trim can be rabbetted (notched) as needed to hide the 1/8" difference. Exterior trim is usually 5/4 thick, such as brickmold... or something of similar thickness.

This assumes your door is made for a standard 4 9/16 or 6 9/16 wall thickness... and that you will have 4 11/16 or 6 11/16.

You don't butt drywall up against trim.

Notch the brick mould. Of course! I have a table saw, so that will be super easy. Thanks!

Hi, Shim the sheetrock 1/8" where it butts upon the door.
