Issue with pre-hung doors
Issue with pre-hung doors
Doors come from the supplier like this (image 048-1)
Notice how the reveal on the hinged side begins to pinch at the bottom.
The door is shipped with 2 duplex nails on the strike side. When you remove the nails, the door drops on the strike side further pinching that bottom corner and changing the top reveal. See below. (Image 054-1)
I can correct the top reveal by shimming the hinge side jamb on the bottom to raise the hinge side.
When installing the door, how do I correct the reveal at the bottom right hinge side so that the reveal is the same from top to bottom?
Hope I explained this correctly.

The door is installed with the hinge side directly against the trimmer and is plumb. The pinch at the bottom however remains.
Using shims and nails, how do I open up the reveal at the bottom right hinge side. Assuming the door is installed with the hinges on the right side, if I shim the bottom to the right will it not just move the jamb to the left and not open the reveal?

Then there has to be something off with the hinges since they are the only thing between the slab and the hing side jamb.
Try switching them and see if the gap moves with the hinge!

Make sure the jambs are the same length on both sides. Also check the floor for level from one side to the other. You may need to trim the bottom end of one of the jambs.
While plumb, shim the hinge side to allow adjustment of the bottom portion of the hinge side jamb.
