Will spackle fill in peeled paint area on door?

I have a slight depression on a cheap hollow door about 8 inches long by maybe 2 inches wide where the old paint had peeled away to expose the original wood of the door. I had primed it with Zinser, but it's still lower than the rest of the paint and slightly notiicable.

Can I use some spackle to fill in the depression and then prime and paint it?

You would have better results with joint compound. Spackle is not hard enough, but joint compound you can sand flat.

Like X, I always use j/c but spackling will work.
IMO a lot depends on what you have on hand.

Thanks guys. It's a very minor inperfection so I think spackle will do. Most people would probably just paint right over it, but sometimes I'm ocd.
