Exterior window caulking

Hello,

My exterior window caulking has started to fail. What’s the process to recaulk? Can I caulk right over the existing caulking which has cracked and split?

If not, how do you remove the old caulking?

Hard to say without seeing what you've got. Generally, no you don't want to just caulk over. But it depends. Removing it is usually done with a utility knife, chisel or scraper. Again, hard to sat without knowing more. You generally want to remove most of the caulking but don't expect it to be spotless. Cleaning before you caulk with denatured alcohol is almost always a good idea.

What type of window/opening is it? wood window? and siding? block? pics would be nice.
With a little effort failing caulk is usually fairly easy to remove.
