Window Stuck with Spray Insulation

se have a house with a 1940s wood framed window. It slides vertically-that is up and down. We had an air conditioner we installed last summer, and spray foam insulation (Great Stuff) placed around the unit to seal it in place. Fall came, and we removed the air conditioner, and or course, closed the window. The window now won't open, and, in fact it is completely immovable, apparently glued shut. Any suggestions?

First, try tapping the window perimeter... sometimes it just gets stuck to the paint. You could also try driving a putty knife or prybar under the window from the outside.

If that fails... the window likely has interior stops and the wooden stop is usually removable... you just have to carefully pry it off without breaking it. If you can include a picture we could verify this for you.

Once the stop is off, you should be able to carefully pry the window sash out and clean it up.

If there was some remaining foam residue between the window and side jamb you have literally glued the window closed.

I'ts going to be very difficult to remove the window depending on how everything is constructed.

It may come to the point that the window has to be torn apart just to get it out of the frame.
