Sliding door handle

Hi there,

The door handle of my sliding door came off. If you see the pictures below you will see what has happened:

What is the best way to fix this? I am looking for some ideas so it wont happen again in the future.

Thank you

Well it looks like maybe the cutout they made was a little big. You will need to fill the old holes with glue and wood. You could use bondo or a wood epoxy too... nothing will work perfectly forever because it looks like the door has a particle board core.

You could also flip the pocket door handle around and see if the screws will hit a different spot. Don't know if you can flip it though.

Putting a little silicone on the 1 3/8" wide part of the cutout perimeter (pushing it into the silicone as you slide it on) would help by bonding the handle to the perimeter... so that you won't be tugging on the screws when you pull the handle.

At any rate, when you go to put the screws back into the new, repaired holes, you should drill pilot holes for the screws.

Best repair would be to drill out the striped threads with a 1/4 drill bit trying to make sure it doesn't break out into the opening.

Then get a 1/4" wood dowel and liberally use carpenter's glue on all mating surfaces.

When dry sand flush and use small drill bit for new hole and it will be better than new!
