Exterior Wooden Door Repair

We have an exterior wooden door that came with the house that requires a little TLC. It appears the bottom part of the door is not a solid piece of wood but rather a panel. The elements have started to split the panel. I was wondering if there was way to repair the panel. I was thinking maybe using stainable wood filler to fill in the spaces and then staining and sealing the door. Any advice/tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That looks like a veneer that has failed. While you could sand it down and use a filler - it would ten become a paint grade door.

Got it. Thanks for the info. It looks like time for a new door.

Hi,
Maybe use a kick plate to cover it. I had a similar problem I sealed the wood and put a brass kick plate over it. Still looks good about 10 years.
