Busted window pane
that's right... I kicked a soccer into my window showing my kids how awesome I am. The outer pane of a double pane window is now busted. It's an older all wood sash. Any suggestions on how to approach diy repair??
the sash comes out easy. But don't want to start prying off wood without some research
any pointers are appreciated!

Normally with a thermal pane window you order a new/replacement sash from the manufacturer. But... that's often difficult since the manufacturer's sticker with their name and the window information often falls off.
You can remove the wood trim around the glass on one side and measure the actual size of the glass. The height, with and thickness of the glass panel and order a replacement. When the replacement arrives remove (break out) the old glass panel and install the replacement.
If you want something even more DIY, you can carefully remove the wood trim on one side of the sash. Remove the broken glass. This is difficult as it's glued in place around the edges but it can be done. Get a new piece of glass and secure it with silicone. This is a "sorta" fix as condensation may appear between the panes sometimes.

As the screen and window repair man at the store, anything I can't do I send people to a shop that specializes in glass work of all kinds. I have a pile of their business cards at my table.
To the OP, you must look for a shop that does glass and window repair work that has the equipment to pull a vacuum and fill the double pane glass with inert gas. Local hardware shop won't have it. Shops that repair store front windows is what you want.
