Are my window screens no good?

Not sure if this is a window question or an insect question, but are my screens 'bad'? Are the holes too big?

We have to keep our windows closed all summer long, as numerous gnats (or whatnot) get through the screens. If we kept our windows open, all of the insects below would end up inside our house.

Granted, the pics below are from our kitchen, which is very bright all evening long. It's not quite as bad in the bedrooms that maybe just have a lamp at night, but there are still many gnats/whatever that get through.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

That's standard bug screen. It keeps most bugs out but not 100% of the smallest ones. If you take your screens to a window shop they might have a type of screen that is a little finer. Ask for fine bug screen.

Thank you. Maybe I'll look into fine bug screens, at least for the kitchen...

I meant to say glass shop, not window shop. But you get the idea. Most hardware stores that work on screens will probably have just the standard stuff.

You need Gnat Screening...Known as our NO-SEE-UM screen, this fiberglass mesh is a tightly-woven. Check with a glass shop or hardware if they have it available.

Thank you. Is gnat screening visibly different/does it make it harder to see out the window? I'll of course google this as well..
