Question I need to install a latch on an interior wooden sliding door

I need an easy-install latch for an interior sliding door. I need to put it on without boring any holes for set-in hardware. It all needs to be attached to the surface of the door and the surface of where the door goes into vertically where it closes. I need to be able to latch it from the outside when I leave, and from the inside when I come in. The only purpose of the latch is to keep a 10lb. male cat from opening the sliding door, which lets the heat out.

With the constraints you've put on it about all you could do is use Velcro tape on the door and jamb.

A shoelace, 2 push-pins and a staple gun.

Hi, a piece of 1/4 plywood about 30" High and 4" wider than the door. Put on the side of the door where the cat is and use 2 one gallon jugs of water on the floor to hold the ply wood in place. Works for me.

the latch is to keep a 10lb. male cat from opening the sliding door
Hmm

without boring any holes
So that means the door would have two independent latches, meaning you could be on the wrong side of the door with no way to unlatch!

How about some magnets to add some greater opening force!
