Blackout curtains and window film

I have a major problem with my new place. The studio has too many dang windows. In particular a huge one (56x83"). Even with the vinyl blinds closed, when the sun rises it is light enough in here to type on the computer keyboard. I'm used to sleeping late and for that I need darkness. Second problem is this window (all seven actually) are like heaters...all facing either east or west. I definitely need blackout curtains on the huge on, and at least a few more, to keep the place dark enough to sleep, but what about the heat? If the white blinds do not keep out the heat, I suspect blackout curtains won't do much better. Do I need reflective window flim too?

 

Film would be the first thing I would do, it will dramatically slow the solar gain then you can see what it does to help the light, them make next improvement!,

 

Vinyl blinds (or any kind) with slats are useless. Solar or cellular would work better for heat control.. Blackout curtains actually work very well for heat and darkness, but they need to close completely, go to the wall at the sides and be mounted high enough to cover the top of the window. Custom is best, but more than one pair would be needed if readymade. Don't get grommets.
