Do i need contractor?
Hello everyone,
i own a commercial property , and i need to replace some windows ( very easy job )
i asked over the town ( in massachusetts) if i do need a permit for this ,
and they told me , yes i do need a permit and also because is a commercial building i need a contractor to do it.
Is it true? I knew that as homeowner u can do everything yourself.
Do im wrong?
Thanks

I can't speak to MA specifically, but in most areas, homeowners who live in their house, can do most permitted projects on their own. The catch is 'who live in the house'. As soon as it becomes a rental or investment property (flip), most/all areas require a licensed/insured contractor to pull the permit and do the work.

The local AHJ is called that for a reason. If they say you need to hire the work done, then it seems like you do.

Massachusetts has extensive information about contractor licensing online at https://www.mass.gov/info-details/gu...ntracting?%22-.
You may be able to get a commercial license and do the work yourself.
