No soffit ventilation
Just bought a home, erected in the early 1900s, and found that there are soffit vents on the exterior. But when you remove them, the wall and roof rafters touch; no way for there to be ventilation into the attic. How can I remedy this?

You say the rafters are resting on the walls but is there the rafter space between the bottom of the rafter and underside of the roof deck.
I just ventilated my soffits and mine is like you describe but there is a 4" gap where air can flow.
