Running a venting duct through a cold air return

am remodelling a basement and I noticed that the old bathroom has the vent duct running through the cold air return ( for about 6ft, in and out, the entrance and exit are sealed) and then outside. It does not seem to impede air circulation, there I plenty of volume left, even with the duct inside. Is that ok, or should I try to reroute the duct around the cold air return (which might not be an easy task)? I am in Canada, in case regulations are different between Canada and US.

Thanks!

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me but we're not there to see details that might make this make sense.

To your knowledge, is this a code violation in Canada?

Not sure about Canada's code. I've seen all kinds of things run in the return air ducts, shouldn't effect the performance of the furnace.
