Vent crawl space to through attic

I have a situation just like an older post that I can not add to. In that post the guy wanted to vent his crawl space to the attic and he was not advised to do that. I am in a desert climate with only one small crawl space vent. I don't want to cut through the foundation for an additional vent so what if I run a vent through the attic to the outside. I could add a fan. Would that work or are there problems I am missing? I don't really have moisture, just some stale smells I want to vent out.

None of us know what other post or thread you are talking about.

Are you getting smells in the house from the crawl space? Are you smelling the stale smell only when you go into the crawl space?

Why don't you want to add another vent through the foundation? That certainly would be the simplest. I can't imagine that cutting an opening in the floor and ceiling, installing a duct then enclosing it so it looks decent could be easier that simply adding another vent through the foundation.
