Can you split an 8 duct?

I have a 8 inch round flexible duct that goes into a large living room (about 20 feet from furnace). We are splitting the living room into 2 rooms so I wanted to split the heating. Can I attach a 8x6x6 tee fitting to feed each room? Or does it have to be a wye?

Because of the location and angles of the attic, a tee would be easier. Thanks

A wye will split the duct equally with minimal loss.
You would get half to each room which may not be enough.

A tee would split the duct but introduce loss/stoppage because of the design.
