Kenmore refrigerator: in door ice: no ice

Hello all,

I am hoping to get some help with my kenmore refrigerator. It is a side by side m/n 106.56533400. We recently moved into a completely remodeled home and I am having an issue with the ice maker not making ice. There is a optic sensor that is blinking twice then pausing for a second and repeating. I have YouTube'd and tried to find the answer for myself and have been unsuccessful. So far I have removed the ice maker and disassembled it to look for any obvious issues and cannot find any. I reconnected the ice maker and still no ice. Also, the filler tube is not frozen or obstructed by ice. The water depensor on the front is working well. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the optic sensor but I need help. Thank you in advance.

Welcome again to the forums.

Is this a new fridge ?
These ice makers are problem units.
Did you allow at least 24 hours to make ice ?

Go to page 25 in the manual below. The optics testing is explained there.

Download this..... MANUAL

I don't think it's a new fridge. Although I'm not 100% on that answer. I assume not because the only manuals I have for the house are the diswasher and microwave (which I know are brand new). I have allowed 24 hours. Ok I will look at the manual. Better to just replace the ice maker?

In the manual it describes the optic operation. Make sure that is ok first.

I would try manually filling the tray with some water. The reason for this is you may have a defective fill valve and replacing the ice maker will yield no improvement.

I just got home from being out of town. I looked at the manual and followed the steps and still no ice. I removed the IR receiver and place a jumper. Then plugged the fridge back in. The ice machine filled with water and is in the process of making ice. Looks like I need to get new optics...

Keep that manual in a safe place. They're hard to come across for free.

The optics comes as a kit and is part number 4389102. You can search on the internet. It's sold in many places. Even your local appliance parts retailer will have it. Runs around $35.

Be sure to unplug fridge before replacing the kit.
