Noisy Washer When Spinning

Noisy Washer When Spinning
Just recently the washing machine has started to be quite noisy and seems to be getting noisier each time I use it. It's a GE. I bought it new in 2005.
I called a repair man and asked him if he repairs washing machines.
He asked what kind it was. I said GE. He said "Nope."
I said mind telling me why? He said because I don't like them.
The next repair man I called and described the noisy machine. He said its the bearings going out it'd be cheaper to buy a new one than try to fix this one.
Is this true? If so, yikes, what a headache choosing a washer.
Lowe's has a Maytag and Best Buy has an Amana for around $350.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Maytag is a Whirlpool re branded, Amana could be almost anything as they don't make there own anymore. LG is the one I would recommend, either front loader or top but they are not cheap. The new Whirlpool one's are getting better but they work different than you are used to. Sears Kenmore can be almost anything, Few years ago they went from only whirlpool to different brands. Samsung makes a nice washer but they are in a large recall as there top load washers are exploding.
