Refrigerator makes loud noise when compressor stops

The refrigerator is still cooling fine (For how long I don't know as it was old when I moved into the apartment in 2008) but it makes a loud banging noise when the compressor stops.

Sound Anyway the brand is GE and the model is TBX14SABBLWW

Anyway what causes that sound? I have talked to the maintenance workers and they turn me away because the unit is still cooling fine. I can live with the noise I just am afraid the unit is dying and will just happen to break on a long weekend

Among many things, it could likely be deteriorated compressor mounts.

A broken spring inside the compressor housing is very often a cause. It's what holds the motor inside the black can that is the compressor.

It may last years, or could go in a week.

The refrigerator has been making that noise on and off for about a year and a half

When the weather was warmer the noise stopped completely now that the weather is colder it makes that noise 99 % of the time when the compressor stops.

So I guess it is on borrowed time?

Well, from the moment it was purchased, it's been on borrowed time. Just like you, me, and everyone else...lol.

If it does break, your freezer would easily last 2 days if you don't open it. And it's a good time to clean out the other side. If this is a rental, no refrigerator, if it's in the lease, means it would be violating the lease for them not to replace it in a timely manner. Like 1 day timely.
