whirlpool washing machine problem

I have a wtw4800xq2. it was making an awful "ratcheting" noise during the wash and any spin cycle. I do not have a recording of the noise nor can I get one. I have the washing machine tore apart at this moment. the belt came off, I put it back on but it wouldn't stay on. there seemed to be a lot of play in the large pully for the transmission. Any ideas?

The pulley on that washer the center nut will loosen and come off. Pulley will move around or fall off. Will also cut grooves in plastic cover. Don't worry about grooves but put loctite on nut and reinstall. Belt will stay on and noise gone. Reinstall plastic cover. There is a kit you can get for this but not necessary.
