Whirlpool Washing Tub off track?
Hello all. I've been looking online for the last few days about how to fix my Whirlpool Duet washing machine. A roommate put in WAY too many clothes. The machine clunked around during the spin cycle and now, you can freely spin the inner tub and and see it move towards the door, then make a squeak and a clunk and fall back in place. I have no clue how to fix this. Any help would be awesome at this time. Thanks, Nic
Oh, if needed, I have model #:WFW9200SQA12

Need you to make a couple of quick checks. Spin the stainless basket by hand , it should spin freely and feel smooth, next lift basket, it should lift with tub if just basket moves let me know if either of these are happening.
Did the washer walk across the floor?

The steel basket spins but moves forward, then makes a squeak and pops in position again. Almost like if you unthread a bolt, and keep twisting do it rides the last thread. Does that make sense?
To answer your other questions, the washing machine doesn't walk around, and both baskets move together freely. And apparently it's not draining all the way now.

Sounds like the bearing is going bad. Basket must spin freely with no noise and feel smooth. If it is rough feeling when turned by hand than bearing. Does it make a roaring sound when spinning?
Look in owners manual under warranty some are lifetime on basket and 10 years on tub. If bearing is bad you will need rear tub and basket. Parts only covered.

Is it just the basket moving or does the basket and tub move together (this is important),Lift top of basket and make sure it does not move up and down in plastic tub. Water draining is another issue. Is there any water left in washer? If so have a bucket to catch water.Take bottom panel off, White drain pump in front, Pull washer out about 2 feet and lean back against wall. Take white cap off front of pump (careful it water in washer). Clean trap. Put back together, leave panel off till we make sure everything is alright. There are 4 shocks make sure none are broken.

Use a wet, dry vacuum and get as much water out as you can. Than follow what I said earlier. After water is out and pump clean try a spin cycle and see how it runs. I usually put 3 or 4 wet towels in to check.

Until you fix water issue no telling it there is even a problem. No drain will cause lot of different problems. Remember tub and basket moving together is ok but basket moving in tub up and down in tub is bad. Even a little movement over a 1/8 inch.
Noise you say is not a common noise that is why keep asking questions.

Bent? from a lopsided load during the spin cycle maybe? It doesn't look bent in person though. just sorta pops off track then clunks back on.
What would i need to buy to repair it?

Check your warranty you are looking at about 550 in parts and a 3 hour rebuild. Parts up to a few years ago basket was lifetime and rear tub was 10 years. need serial number or your owners manual to see what yours is. Labor is not covered.
Just found your owners manual and you have only a 1 year on parts and labor

Here is a video of repair and 3/4 of the way through is one of the reasons we always replaced tub and basket.

One question, how old is the machine?
In the last 9 years we went through 2 Duet machines, the first lasted about 7 years and the second started going after about 18 months.
If you call and get ahold of their customer relations group and make a stink they will at least sell you a 1 year warranty policy that covers the repair, crazy.
We did that on the first washer but the repair only lasted a year, after that we bought again and when that started going bad I sent letters and links to a You Tube video and surprisingly they gave us a new machine.
We went top load!
Front load washers are simply krap, the bearing is too weak and failures are all to common. A 7 year machine is an old machine.

Proper way to fix is replace rear tub and basket. There are ways to replace just bearing, Would need to search way. The deciding factor would depend on basket condition. What usually happens is when bearing goes bad it wears a groove in basket where the bearing goes. Looking the way your rotates you most likely would need basket. The job is a 2 to 3 hour job with 2 men that have done many.
