GE electric oven not working (stove does work); works after resetting breaker

My GE electric oven will not work, but the stove does work. IT is 10+ years old

Problem started months ago. Had a repairman check it and it is not the element. We discovered accidentally that if I turn off the breaker and put it back on, the oven will work. He said in 25+ years he has never seen that happen. Oven has been doing fine for a few months until our power went out yesterday. Now I can still "reset" it by turning the breaker off and on again, but eventually it goes out again.

Any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks.

P.S. I am new to forum so just figuring things out. I hope I provided enough information.

Welcome to the forums.

No maam... you did not provide enough info.
Post the model number for me.

GE electrics are plagued by relay problems and that may be the issue here.

Have you tried both bake and broil modes ?

Ahh, yes. I will have to pull it out to find the model number so I will do that as soon as I can.

Both the bake and broil modes work.

Thanks. Ok the model number is J BP26G S 1AD.

This afternoon it did something new. The bake and broil still do not work, but the oven light will go on and I see a partial display on the clock. The buttons to set the clock and timer do nothing. After the "breaker reset" it is working for the moment. I suspect not for long, though.

You have a defective timer/control board.

That's an older range and I don't think the board is available anymore for it but there are companies that offer rebuilding. I'll check further.

Thanks for your quick response. So the control board can work intermittently?
