Whirlpool fridge ice dispenser not working

Hello. I have a Whirlpool side by side model WSF26C3EXF01 that is no longer dispensing ice. I replaced the motor, but that did not resolve the problem. When the ice dispensor lever is pushed the door in the ice chute opens, and I can hear a clicking like a solenoid or switch each time I press the lever. I thought that maybe the control panel might be bad but assumed that the ice dispenser door wouldn't open if so. Hoping to get some advice before throwing more parts at it. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

The service info shows a transient surge suppressor in line with the motor, I don't see it as a replaceable part and I don't know where it's located. Did you see any part connected inline to one of the motor wires ?

Actually now that I think further.... the part may be inside the motor housing.

Thank you for your reply. The wires for the motor disappear into the interior door liner. I removed the control panel on the outside of the door and can't see these wires. Looks like I would have to remove the inside liner in order to see where these wires go and if anything else is connected. I don't see any fasteners holding the liner in place. If the transient surge suppressor is what failed and is inside the motor housing then I assume that the new motor would have resolved the problem.

Yes. Here is a photo of the two wires( blue and grey/orange) going into the inner door panel.

And another of the front without the control panel. No sign of these two wires that I can see.

The wiring for the dispense motor travels thru several wire harnesses and ends up at the main (minotaur) board. The front dispense control board sends logic to the main board to operate the 140VDC motor. The next logical steps is to check for the 140VDC at the main board when requesting ice. I have a feeling that there may be a broken wire between the motor and the board.... possibly in the door hinges.

I can send you a tech sheet if you PM your email address.
Do you know where the main control board is on your fridge ?

main board # W11088499
tech sheet # W10373993

Thank you for all of your help! PM sent. I don't know where the main board is located. Hopefully it is something as simple as a broken wire and is easy to fix.

Several pdf's sent.

The blue and gray/orange wires will appear in locations #7 and #8 on the 8 pin connector of the main board.

It looks like the control board is on the back of the fridge. It's pictorial #30 in the following diagram.

For all pictorials... sears parts direct/wsf26c3exf01/

Thumbs up

Thank you very much for all of your assistance! It will be a few days before I have time to try to fix it and the references you've provided are going to be a big help. I really appreciate it!

In reading at the tech sites I didn't see anyone mentioning the wiring breaking at the hinge but that is a somewhat common problem. If you find the power at the board and it's not at the motor.... there's a break.

Your suspicion was exactly right! Both wires, the blue and the gray/orange, were broken at the lower door hinge. I've fixed them and now the ice dispenser is working. Thank you again for your help. I would not have found this without your advice.
