Electic dryer smells

When we operate the electric dryer it is starting to give off a funny odor. WHIRLPOOL, Model --LEC7848DQ1. SERIAL # MF0803616. The exhaust is not blocked. It exhaust into crawl space. Any idea.

Normally a dryer is vented outside to eliminate the smells and dust inside.

Where are you smelling it..... in the crawl space ?
It sounds like lint being burned off the heating element.
Possibly the dryer needs to be taken apart and cleaned.
How old is it ?

Most dryer smell come from the air around it. Dryers pull in a lot of air and is heated. Are you painting anyplace in or outside house? Are chemicals stored in room with dryer. I have found neighbors painting there house and smell came out dryer. Vent under house could cause it. Should be vented outside.
