Freezer defrost problems

I have a Amana side by side an the temperature in fridge isnt getting cold enough .
Freezer is Good at 6 bit fridge is 50 an setting is high.

What do I need to look at?
Is this over frosting?

I tested the temp sensor on coils an defrost timer ,both working good an so does temperature adjuster in fridge.
Maybe defrost fan?

I'm thinking the defrost fan maybe ,I tested the sensor on coils an timer /heater,
The controls for fridge on right is manual an opens small flap .the adjuster beside it seems to work fine on lowering temperature but fridge cant reach 40 at all.In fact it stayed over 60 a while once.
I've defrosted it a few times also.
The higher i turn the left temprerature adjuster the more ice seems to accumulate.

I almost thought you were low on refrigerant but I see the coil frosted over evenly in some pics. This time of year.... frosting can't be helped. The higher the humidity the more frost you get. Air leaks thru the door gasket as well as holding the door open excessive amounts of time contribute to the problem.

You need the freezer to get cold, trip the defrost timer to defrost and see if the coil deices by itself. There is a heating element in it that unthaws it quickly. There is also a defrost thermostat that keeps the coil from overheating during defrost and melting the plastic interior.

I labeled the thermostat with a red arrow. It's hard to check with a meter as it only closes when the temps are below like 50 degrees. That's why I put it into defrost and check and see if the defrost heater is getting hot. The typical defrost cycle occurs 3-4 times a day.

That fan moves cold air between the fridge and freezer. It's off in defrost mode.

I took the temp sensor,on coil, out an placed it in another freezer. It did change from nothing to 00.1 after temperature got low .
After I took it out I heard it retrip as room temp raised the temp in it.

I literally tested the timer after all frost was gone an fridge off a day an did feel the heat kick in as i turned it close to that spot .
I also marked it an came bk hours later thru day an saw it is turning on its own .

The cover off should not affect the defrosting. The fan should not be running.

If that is the amount of frost you get between defrost periods then you have a problem with door seals...... unless you keep the door open for extended periods.

My mom is in a wheelchair and she opens the door and studies the fridge contents.

Based on your fridge model number...... your defrost cycles should be every 8 hours and should be 32 minutes in duration.

So my defrost timer is sluggish or not keeping up with cycles ?
Yes timer says 8hr on it.
I thought 45 min to hour was a bit too long.
Does this factor fridge tempt being to high even between defrost?

If the timer doesn't complete the defrost cycle in 32 minutes...... it's bad.

I

I'll replace it.
is this a factor to temp in fridge being too warm? Even in regular cooling mode?

The defrost timer doesn't really affect the fridge temp but if the coil isn't clear..... not enough air will flow thought the coil to keep it cold.

Going back to Pjmax's reply (#4) I would have to agree that it appears the charge is low. When that happens, the phase change (liquid to gas) of the refrigerant occurs too rapidly. Instead of a slow process that happens throughout most of the evaporator coil, it takes place in the first portion of the coil. Consequently, only that portion provides cooling, which is insufficient for the job.
It sounds like the defrost termination thermostat is doing its job all right, and apparently the defrost time is working, although I have found them to be problematic at times. It might be time to call the repairman to come in with some line taps and a set of gauges to diagnose this problem.
