Ge electric clothes dryer....
Greetings:
We have a GE electric clothes dryer that is in excess of 10 years old. Recently , at times, we will notice black marks on the clothes after running them through a cycle. No marks were on the clothes before being put in the dryer.
Before tackling the job of taking apart this appl. is it possible that the drive belt is flaking pieces into the drum? Any other ideas appreciated.

Doubtful it's the drive belt. Usually if it's hard enough to flake.... it will break.
Has anyone lubricated any of the rollers ? That could run into the tub.
Possibly a drum seal although not usually black.
Post the model number for that dryer.

Pj..
..Hi there! Always glad when you respond. The rollers haven't been lubricated in a loooong time. The model # is DDE9200GalWH. Strange as sometimes it happens then won't for awhile then again. Perplexing as it is random but the response is ongoing (if you get my drift!)

Ah.... yes. The GE dryer drum bearing. Chances are that bearing is going bad.
It must be well lubricated because they make a lot of noise when they go bad.
In the link is the part along with a replacement video. The front bearing on that dryer is black felt so when taking the machine apart check that for wear and pieces missing. Usually the "felt" bearings won't cause black stains on the clothing.

Black marks on clothes are caused be the clothes getting between drum and felt seal. On your dryer the felt is in the front of dryer. I think your dryer has plastic front bearing that usually is falling apart by now, Before I retired I replaced many of front bearings and felts.
