Washing Machine Replacement

My Maytag Atlantis MAV6200AWW Serial #: 20097247AA has started a grinding noise on the spin cycle. The agitator wont spin by hand. I pulled the drive belt and the motor runs quiet. Could it be bad bearing(s)?

Can anyone tell me the year of manufacture?

If it's the transmission, would it be better to buy a new washer? If so, what would be a reliable one, top load, white, with the basic washes. No frills.

According to the serial number this product may have been manufactured January of 2002.

I'll let my partner handle the repair aspect.

Grinding noise on spin sounds like a transmission. Does it spin at all. Take front off and lean washer back against wall. turn pulley, one way agitator should turn and one way you should see the transmission lift a little. if no lift than the thrust bearing may be bad. Thrust bearing is in the center of pulley under the plastic cap. Let me know what you find. About the only thing I would replace on that old washer,
