Is cleaning vinegar safe to run through a coffee maker to clean it?
Lots of gunk caked on the walls of the keurig coffee maker at work.
It's also producing water that's dark and got particles in it if I just use it to boil water.
Was told to run vinegar through it to clean it.

Ingredients are:
Water, acetic acid, Alcohol Ethoxylate, Butyl Carbitol, Citrus Oil, Preservative.
Is it safe to run through and drink a keurig cup afterwards?

All purpose cleaning vinegar at amazon...... $13 a half gallon.
Distilled white vinegar at Shop Rite........ $3 a half gallon.

You should be just running straight white vinegar thru your machine.
That product has oil and preservatives in it. I wouldn't want that in my coffeemaker.
That product says right on it..... "for cleaning purposes only".
That basically means don't use it in food preparation but......

We've always used cheap white vinegar. We run it through several times. Then run a couple cycles with plain water to clear out the vinegar. Then when the vinegar is done on the coffee maker we soak the shower heads and finally it gets dumped in the driveway on the weeds to get the most value out of our dollar store vinegar.

Michael, I didn't have great luck with just vinegar for my blackened SS pot so searched and found an article recommending hot water and dish washing detergent. Don't have the link but should be easy to find. But the black gunk just floated to the surface and the inside was like new. Being dish detergent I figured it was people safe so ran a mild solution through my machine and more gunk came out. I don't think they mentioned using inside the coffee maker but I did and it worked.
