no power in part of circuit

Problem and history in point form:-
--- the fuse ( screw type ) is ok
--- part of the circuit has power while the further part has none.
--- the house is a side split
--- I trace the wires in the crawl space and in the attic
--- the light switch in the living room has voltage but the light does not come on
--- the house is over 50 years old in Ontario, Canada
--- the problem started less than a year ago.
--- no electrical work was done to cause the problem
--- the problem started on and off - that is, there was no power and after a while it fixed itself
--- now it is just no power
What could be the cause?

How did you determine there was power? Common mistakes in doing this is measuring across the switch and using a non contact tester.
What could be the cause?
A bad connection. The connection could be at the last working outlet (outlet=light or switch or receptacle) or the first non working outlet. Any wires inserted in the back of a device needs to be moved to the screws. Any wirenuts need to be redone. Ant screw connections need to be tested for tightness.
