Wiring problem with range hood

I am having issues with range hood change in my mobile home. I shut off the breaker that controls my range hood along with my kitchen, bathroom, hall, and bedroom lights. When I removed the range hood, it had 2 sets of wires going to it, 1 for light and 1 for fan. The new hood only has 1 wire, so I turned breaker on to test both sets of wires. 1 tested dead and the other was live, so I connected the live wire to the range hood. I taped off the other wire really well, and set it aside. The new hood works, but now my bathroom light does not. Please help.

The wire that tested dead was likely the feed to the bathroom light, so I suggest you un-tape it and connect it to the hot wire along with the hood.

From what you write that is incorrect. What you had was power in and power out to the rest of the outlets*. The wires should have remained connected together and the new vent connected to them.
I taped off the other wire really well, and set it aside.
Best to use wire nuts not tale.

*An outlet is anywhere power is used such as a light or receptacle.

Ok. Relooking at it, the old hood has 1 black and 2 white wires. I guess I shouldn't be doing wiring at 0100. So, my fix is the wire that other set of wires back into it?
