water heater electrical

hi all,

i need a new water heater and the current one is up on the wall and is a short version, plumber wants to install a tall version since they are easier to work on and the wall cabinet the short is in makes it impossible to get to.

he wants to splice the electrical wiring into a box and then into the new heater the circuits are a dual 30a and he stated, he thinks its #10 wire.

the exisiting and new units are 4500/4500 240v

is this acceptable to do? can i verify the wire size that is on the existing unit somehow?

#10 on a 2-pole 25 or 30 is fine.

That is the correct wire. Making connections in a box is the correct way.
