Question Hard wired smoke gang box?

Any code or advantage to using a round gang box vs a single gang for hard wired smokes? I purchased a single gang but a buddy said I'm supposed to use the round ones.

Either is fine for a smoke alarm.

Great, thank you. Saves me an extra trip to the depot.

Usually a octagon box is used for that type of fixture.

Smoke detectors come with two sets of mounting holes to fit either box.
