Wiring for Flood Lights

I want to put a flood light outside of my garage. I am at a loss as to whether I should:

1.drill through vinyl siding & drywall and somehow wire in the garage (if so, hook-up to existing receptacle? - really don't want conduit along the walls). The flood light would be about 5 feet above an existing outdoor light controlled by a switch, so I'm not sure if I could/would want to tap into that power - because I would want the flood light powered at all times. OR

1.Drill through soffit into unfinished 2nd floor (there are wires running up there

across rafters but not sure how to tap into them to power flood light). There are other lights in the unfinished upstairs controlled by 1 switch about 20 feet away.

Although some may advise to hire electrician, I currently cannot afford one, and want to try this myself with the help of a friend. I've been doing reading on basic wiring but still need some help!

 

That is probably best. You need to choose a lightly used circuit that is not bath or kitchen receptacles or a switch circuit. You would cut the cable and install two boxes about a foot apart. The reason is the two boxes when connected by a jumper will give you enough wire to work with. The boxes must be placed where they will always be accessible.
