charging Ni Cad battery

Hi All, can I charge a 600 mah battery using a charger rated for 300 mah these are in outdoor solar lights that I can't seem to find 1.2 volt AA 300 mah batteries for.

Geo; the "charger" in your case is just the solar cell? In that case, it will still charge, but you may not have enough hours of daylight to take full advantage of the larger cells. I'm going to suppose it may work the same as if you used 300 mAh cells.

I have used higher capacity batteries in solar powered lights without problem. As mentioned, they may not get up to full charge but at least you have enough battery to take everything the sun can give it during the day.
