Removing armature from 1/2hp motor ?
The rotator spins freely by hand, but I have taken the brushes out and I can't get the armature to come out toward the shaft end. I don't want to beat it up too much but maybe I'm too shy. The brush holders may be restraining it and I can't get them out. I found allen screws holding the brush holders, but even with the set screws removed, I can't remove them. I even tried turning them gently with a small pipe wrench, but they won't budge. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim
(That's 1/2 HP)

Usually the motor has two end caps that can be removed. The brushes/holder should not be causing a problem in dis-assembly.
It sounds like the armature shaft may be bound to the bearing.
Try something like PB blaster or Liquid Wrench to break it free.
Pictures of what you are working on are helpful too.

Thanks PJMax, I'll post some photo's tomorrow. Meanwhile, this is what one looks like on eBay: Toledo 68 pipe threader powered w/ 3 adapter hubs and 9 die heads | eBay
On this motor, The end bell on the shaft end comes off, but not the other end. The motor case on the other end, does not come off.

Thanks for your interest Pete. I wasn't very observant when I posted the link to the first machine. It is not like mine. Here is one that matches my motor:

I guess, strictly speaking, it is a worm drive, but not in the traditional definition because the "gear" on the motor shaft looks like a pinion. I'll just have to take some pictures.
