Replaced fluorescent light ...

I replaced a fluorescent light that had a built-in power receptacle (that didn't work) with a recessed light. I did such a great job that the new light refuses to shut off at the switch. I wired the new fixture exactly as the old fixture but I'm wondering: Could the problem be that the old fixture was wired so that the receptacle would work even when the light was turned off? All help is greatly appreciated.

It looks like you bypassed the switch by connecting the wires that you have marked "confused", to the hot lead.

Yes, by process of elimination, I did. It was the only open lead left on the new fixture. How do I fix it?

This is the correct wiring. You use switched hot and neutral.

You are a life saver! Thank you, so very much. I'll try this in the morning and let you know how it goes.

Many thanks, again!

You connected to the constant hot in the box, not the switched hot.
