Can these conduits stay in place?
Hey guys,
I am about to start framing out for a drop ceiling in my garage and had a questions about the current conduits and the proposed 2x12 beam that will be replacing the current 2x4. I've been told that these conduits don't have to be moved out of the way and that there should be sufficient clearance. Is there usually enough slack in the lines to accommodate another 7" up in travel? If not, for you framers, can the beam be notched and then some sort of Simpson hardware be utilized to brace it?

There is usually no room to move conduit. It doesn't stretch. I would doubt there is enough slack to get 7" of movement and I don't see how you can cut that much out of 2x12.
Show us a larger picture of the area where the ceiling joins the wall.

I typed the same reply and then figured it wasn't a suspended ceiling but an actual sheetrock ceiling. Guess we'll need to wait for clarification.

To clarify, the plan is create a ceiling with insulation and canned lights.

Ok.... but suspended with tiles or sheetrock ?
That looks like a 2 car garage and will require some major framing if you are hanging sheetrock.

Yes, the plan is to retrofit it with the appropriate framing as well and then hang sheet rock.
