Increased Electrical Bill only from past 3 months

Hi All,

From the past 3 months all of the sudden I am getting a bill with very high electrical consumption than earlier (2 to 3 times higher) No new Electrical appliances are added or removed. Stopped using some of the High wattage Appliance and for a month, Still no result. I stay in an apartment and when switch off at the Electrical meter or main DP at Flat meter stops. other wise its keeps running. I doubt from some Live wire Supply is leaking to civil structure some where and this is the reason. Any Idea how to find this and repair?
Anyone has experienced this?

There are many things that have a bearing on the bill.

As Ray mentioned...... electric water heater.
Your location as this has been a cold winter.
Do you have electric heating ?

Compare your previous monthly bills and see if your usage has changed, has there been a rate increase that you are not aware of?

Leave the main on and shut off all the breakers, meter should stop.
If it does then switch on one breaker at a time to see when the meter starts running again to narrow down which circuit is an issue.

Hi Thanks for reply, Its not heater we use all seasons..In all seasons the usage average (Watt-hours/month) was OK. I can see the increase consumption (Wattage hours) in electrical Bill.

The two most common causes for this are a water heater stuck on all the time or a bad refrigerator/freezer running all the time because it has a freon leak. Another one I saw once was a malfunction in the thermostat which ran the air conditioner and heater at the same time.
