Checking transformer voltage behind my door bell

I was given a fluke meter 77 lV multimeter and I want to check the voltage output from the transformer behind my front door bell. I have never used a multimeter before. Which plugs do I choose for the leads connection and also which setting I choose with the dial? Again I am trying to find out the output voltage behind my front door bell button... Need Help Please... Is there a YouTube video showing me exactly what to do or can someone please give specific instructions to help me.
Thanks In Advanced. SaltheHippy.

Just turn the switch one step to V AC (AC=~) plug the 2 cables in to the jack on the right side Usually we put the black on COM.

That instrument is auto range so you may measure the mains or the output with the same setting. Do not touch any live wires! Usually the output of a transformer like that is about 8V If it have some markings of voltage, it will usually be some higher reading until someone presses the ring button.

dsk

Welcome to the forums.

If you measure the AC voltage at the doorbell button.... you should see 14-20v AC.
The transformer base voltage is usually 16v.
