Code requirements for panel clearances
Hello,
I understand that Code requirements for panels and meters are a minimum of 36" free in front of them. Is it acceptable to use this space as walking space and work space? I will be placing countertop on the other wall side of the panels and meters so we can use this area to work. We are running out of room in this area. It will be for a commercial application if that makes a difference. I have included a pic to help you out more.
These are the meters etc:
This is the work diagram. There will be 3' 6" in front of the meters which is more than 3'.
Thanks

I can see the images on my computer. But I did as you suggested and inserted the images. For some reason it flipped my diagram so that it is upside down. Hopefully it can be read upside down.

I reoriented the diagram.
It certainly looks like you have the required clearances in front of the equipment.

Ok. I was concerned that perhaps that clearance couldn't be used as an area were workers will be routinely moving around; but it appears it to be fine. Just being safe.

As long as it remains open and not blocked by crap.... it's fine.
A person working on the bench in the same area does not constitute a blockage.

FYI in a commercial space blocking panels is also an OSHA violation so if you got inspected they could issue a fine and correction notice. As the others mentioned it can be walking/standing space as long there isn't stuff piled there. If you're in an industry where an inspection is likely/possible, adding a "NO STORAGE" sign on the front of the panel is a good idea.

If concrete floor you could paint some diagonal stripes. Work tried caution tape but didn't last.

A counter cannot be placed below the meters. The 3 1/2 foot may not be enough depending on the voltage.
